QUESTION
how do you reset between the last meeting and dinner when you are a working parent?
give the switch its own slot so the last meeting does not bleed into the kitchen. close the laptop, chew one to two pieces of nula calm gum for at least three minutes, and start dinner with your hands rather than your inbox. nula is caffeine-free, sugar-free and not a sleep aid, with 100mg l-theanine and 50mg gaba per serving.
the 5pm to 7pm crunch is two jobs with no gap
the last call ends at 5:28. homework starts at 5:30. dinner is at 6, and the part of your head that was in the meeting is still in the meeting. nobody scheduled the switch, so it does not happen, and the first hour of family time gets the leftovers of the workday.
that is not a willpower problem. it is a transition problem, and transitions go better when they have a shape.
a reset that fits in the walk from the desk to the stove
close the laptop. chew one to two pieces of nula for at least three minutes, and use the chewing window as the boundary: no phone, no last message, one task done with your hands — onions, the table, the lunchboxes for tomorrow. by the time the gum has done its part, you are in the kitchen and not in the meeting.
suggested use is no more than ten pieces a day, so a piece at 5:30 sits well within it even on a day you also used it earlier. keep the pack in a kitchen drawer the kids cannot open — nula is for adults, and it contains xylitol.
peppermint is the only flavor. it does not turn dinner into a mint, and there is nothing to swallow and no water needed.
what the research does and does not establish
kimura and colleagues (2007) gave l-theanine before an acute stress task and recorded lower psychological and physiological stress responses than placebo. hidese and colleagues (2019) ran four weeks of daily dosing in healthy adults and measured stress-related symptoms alongside cognitive function. payne and colleagues (2025) reviewed tea's compounds across cognition, sleep and mood together.
those are ingredient studies. they do not establish how nula is absorbed or how quickly it works, and nobody has run a trial at 5:30pm in a kitchen. the reset is a habit; the gum is a studied ingredient in a format the habit can hold.
what it will not do
nula is not a sleep aid, and it will not make the inbox smaller. it is a dietary supplement for occasional stress, and the reset works because you close the laptop, not because of anything a gum can do about the emails.
if this window feels unmanageable most days rather than some days, that is a conversation with a doctor, or a manager, rather than a supplement question.
common follow-ups
chew as soon as the laptop closes. three minutes of chewing is the whole requirement, so the reset fits inside almost any gap.
human trials have run daily l-theanine for four weeks without notable safety findings, and nula's suggested use is no more than ten pieces a day. pregnancy, breastfeeding and prescription medication are the cases that need a doctor first.
it is not formulated or studied as a sedative, and it contains no caffeine. l-theanine is described in the research as calm while staying alert. individual responses vary.
